Rev. Eddie J. Woods Collection
Reverend Woods started out with a rocky childhood, growing up as a poor black child in Ridgeway.
He turned his life around and became a minister, author, and leader in the communities that he serves.
In 2012, Reverend Eddie Woods received the key to the city of Edgewood, where he has been active in
ministry of Edgewood, where he has been in ministry for 30 years. Woods says this type of
community-driven ministry allows him to "pastor outside the four walls". Reverend Woods started the
Give Me Five Ministry where he ministers on the basketball courts in an Edgewood park each Sunday.
The trade-off is five minutes of ministry, then game time on the court. Woods has also put together
a group called Stop the Violence, which he organized to conduct marches and voice concerns about
violence in local neighborhoods. Woods has been honored for his 25-plus year as a volunteer chaplain
for the South Carolina Department of Corrections. To help spread the word and help finance his
volunteer work and donations, Woods has written several books discussing his childhood obstacles
in Fairfield County and his second chance at a new and rewarding life. (Courtesy of Rev. Eddie Woods.)
